Description:
The Montgomery Museum of Art & History presents the Montgomery County 250 Exhibit Reception, Ribbon Cutting & Art Exhibit Receptions on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Join the Montgomery Museum to celebrate a full slate of events!
At 4:00 PM, a ribbon-cutting held by the Chamber of Commerce will take place for our new ADA accessible lift and then we celebrate our Montgomery County 250 exhibit, along with the following three art exhibits: the Textile Artists of Virginia’s Balance, a theme show on migration, and the plein air artworks made as a part of Arts Love NRV.
Formed when Fincastle County disbanded in late 1776, Montgomery County had two sister counties, Washington and Kentucky. The original Montgomery County boundary was decreased through the formation of West Virginia in 1863 and ten other Virginia counties between 1790 and 1887. Agriculture, industry, schools, and tourism followed the early settlers to transform the expanse of land into the complex we know today. Learn more local history at the new historical exhibit.
From the Textile Artists of Virginia (TAVA), view their exhibition titled “Balance.” Some artists interpret the theme as work-life balance or the balance of nature, such as the balance between pollinators and predators. One piece shows balanced stacks of rocks. Other pieces look at the balance of color, such as a color wheel. Balance of viewpoints and different cultures are also represented.
A Montgomery Museum art theme show invited members of the community to explore what "Migration" meant to them. The Museum’s history exhibit for Montgomery County 250 celebrates our place on the Westward expansion. The Migration: Art + History exhibit showcases local artists’ exploration of the topic.
Finally, artworks from the Arts NRV Plein Air Event are on display at the Museum. Admire these special works painted on site at historic properties and vote for your favorite's chance to win the People's Choice award, sponsored by the Montgomery Museum Board of Directors.
Additionally, the 24th is Giving Day! Our fundraising goal is $65,000 - and we need your help to reach it. Early giving is open now and Giving Day is from noon on June 24 - noon on the 25. You can give at www.givelocalnrv.org/organization/Mmah.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Food and refreshments will be served.
The Montgomery Museum of Art & History is located at 4 East Main Street in Christiansburg, VA.
