Description:
As part of Blacksburg Sustainability Week 2018, the program Urban Forestry & Invasive Species: Sawmill Demonstration and Screening of Film "Felled" will be held at Wong Park on Friday, September 21, 2018.

Learn about the valuable potential of products made from trees harvested in towns and cities. The emerald ash borer (EAB) is an invasive insect that is killing ash trees in Blacksburg. Ash and other dead and dying trees that must be removed for safety reasons often contain unique characteristics that can make highly valuable and artistic products.

Come out and learn about the threat of EAB, tree species and characteristics, markets for urban wood products, watch an ash tree killed by EAB be sawn in lumber and see the movie “Felled!”.

Blacksburg Sustainability Week, a collaboration between Sustainable Blacksburg, the Town of Blacksburg and Virginia Tech is celebrating its 12th year in 2018.

Wong Park is located at 30 Wilson Avenue in Blacksburg, VA.

Note: The event was originally listed as Blacksburg Community Center, but the location has moved to Wong Park.
