The Itraab Arabic Music Ensemble performs their annual end of semester concert on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech.
Experience music from throughout the Arab world in this concert by the campus-community ensemble.
The Itraab Arabic Music Ensemble, whose name means "creating enchantment through music," is a musical group made up of Virginia Tech students, graduate students, faculty, and community members. Under the direction of Anne Elise Thomas, ethnomusicologist, the ensemble learns vocal and instrumental pieces from various parts of the Arab world for performance on percussion, voice, strings (violin, viola, cello, and bass), and Arabic instruments (`ud, qanun, and nay).
Admission is free and all are welcome.
Founded in 2014 as a project of Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech, the Itraab Ensemble (whose name means "creating enchantment through music") is a community group that is open to participation for all. Under the direction of Anne Elise Thomas, ethnomusicologist, the ensemble learns musical pieces from various parts of the Arab world, for performance on percussion, voice, strings (violin, viola, cello, bass) and Arabic instruments. Instruments are provided for use. Musical experience is a plus, but not necessary.
Young people (ages 10 and up) are welcome to participate with an adult.
