Description:
Wilderness Road Regional Museum presents the annual Newbern Founder's Day Celebration on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
Newbern became official town on March 3, 1810 by an act of the General Assembly of Virginia. It was named for the early Swiss and German settlers. Join the Founders's Day Celebration with dancing, music, historic legends, a wine, chocolate & cheese tasting and more!
Westover Ballet will present dances to represent the early Swiss, German, Polish, English, Irish, and Scottish settlers. Radford University Professor, Dr. Philip Sweet will share the story of Swiss Folk Hero William Tell, cultural music will be shared, along with history of American Revolutionary War Patriots and stores from our area with Swiss roots.
Kids can take a shot at the "apple" after hearing the William Tell legend.
And, a special tasting will be available of Swiss Wines, Alpine Cheeses, and of course Swiss Chocolate options. The tasting is ticketed and is $18.00 donation per couple or $10.00 for individuals to honor the Newbern's founding year.
Admission to the event is free.
