The Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley continues their Second Saturday Workshops with the second session of the "Introduction to Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Eggs)" with Dr. Kimberly Lewis on Saturday, May 22, 2021.

A pysanka is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, "to write" or "to inscribe", as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax.

In this class we will go over the basics of how to prepare the eggs, draw the designs, color the eggs, and make the eggs ready for exhibits or gifts. This will be a two-hour class where we complete a simple two-color egg. You should leave with the tools and ability to start making pysanky on your own.

Session Two of the Workshop: Will be an in-person class (utilizing social distancing and masking requirements). Dr. Lewis will demonstrate, and students will work with Goose Eggs to produce their own Pysanky Egg.

The cost is $36.00 per person and includes all necessary supplies. Additional eggs can be purchased for $5.00 each while supplies last.
