Description:
The Mayapple School presents an Appalachian Trail Retreat, an overnight camp for ages 12-15 starting on Monday, June 28, 2021 through Friday, July 2, 2021.

At this sleepaway camp, teens will learn powerful practices that help them take a break from the modern world and improve well-being. From our base at Woods Hole (Sugar Run Valley, Giles County), we’ll get ready for a two night backpacking trip by learning about packing, leave no trace principals, and trail safety and etiquette.

In our downtime, we’ll experiment with rejuvenating art mediums such as alcohol ink, painting, or printmaking (no drawing skills needed– campers may, but do not need to, consider themselves to be “artists”). Garden-fresh meals, yoga sessions, and campfires will give us further opportunities to recharge.

After enjoying the remote and rustic paradise of Wood’s Hole, we’ll set off onto the nearest Appalachian Trail crossing (just half a mile away) for a fifteen mile backpacking trip.

Campers will arrive at Woods Hole at 9:00 am on Monday, and depart from Woods Hole at 4:00 pm Friday. Campers will sleep in tents while backpacking and at Wood’s Hole. At Wood’s Hole, modern bathroom facilities including hot showers are available. Campers will carry 20+ lbs on hikes of up to seven miles per day. Backpacking gear will be made available for campers without personal gear.

The full cost is $465.00 per camper. Scholarships are available.

Sign up for a Scholarship spot if your family’s income is:
• 0–185% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), and pay $0.00 (full scholarship).
• 186–205% of the FPL, and pay $165.00 (greatly reduced fee scholarship)
• 206–225% of the FPL, and pay $305.00 (partially reduced fee scholarship)

2021 Summer Camps at the Mayapple School are supported through the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s Community Impact Grant Program. In order to provide summer camp programming to campers from families of all income levels, a minimum number of scholarship spots have been set aside for each camp. Full and partial scholarships are available.
