Description:
In honor of Daniel Pearl Music Day, Hillel at Virginia Tech, American Marketing Association, Ask Big Questions, Friends of Israel at Virginia Tech, Peer Network Engagement and Low Techs present the 13th Annual Daniel Pearl Music Day Concert featuring musician Sammy Adams with openers The 5:55, Jahn Rome and Naturally Sharp on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the Lyric Theatre.

After the death of Daniel Pearl in 2002, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was kidnapped and murdered by his captors in Pakistan, his family decided to inspire hope and unity by inviting people everywhere to dedicate a musical event in the spirit of his love for music.

Boston, Massachusetts hip hop artist Sammy Adams is known for mixing pop hooks and suburban party rap.

He was born as Samuel Adams Wisner and has been involved in music since his childhood with him playing piano from the age of 7. At 11 years old, he began to improvise while playing on his piano, to create his own beats and melodies. Adams has stated in interviews that his musical influences have not only come from other rappers, but also from the classic rock, rock, classical music, and blues genres of music. While seeking to be eclectic, he also stays true to his musical roots so to create a "hip-pop" style in his music. Adams had aspired to be a producer before he had ever aimed at becoming a rapper.

Adams started recording songs on his Macbook in 2008 from his college dormitory room. Over the course of the next two years, he recorded a large amount of material that would be used on his later releases. In early 2010, he emerged into the music industry with his release of "I Hate College (Remix)", a remix of Asher Roth's I Love College, on YouTube. He was able to sell his EP, Boston's Boy, released on March 4, 2010 by 1st Round Records. The EP managed to reach #73 on The Billboard 200. Boston's Boy also debuted at number one on the iTunes hip-hop chart in its first week, and the song "Driving Me Crazy" hit #8 on iTunes hip-hop singles chart. He made his television debut on Conan with Conan O'Brien.

Based out of Warrenton, VA, The 5:55 is an alternative rock band that was founded in the summer of 2014 by long time friends Collin Steves, Kevin Goldman, Max Biskup and Ryan Steves.

The 5:55 set out to create music which would fill the void of rock in the popular music scene. After a year of playing covers ranging from "Baba O' Riley" to "All the Small Things" in bars throughout Virginia, the group entered the studio to record original music.
