Blacksburg Ballet presents "The Nutcracker" at the Bondurant Audtorium on the campus of Radford University on Saturday, December 7, 2019 with performances at 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

“The Nutcracker” ballet is a beloved holiday tradition for the entire family, capturing your imagination and transporting you to a magical world of toy soldiers and dancing snowflakes. The audience follows Clara on her journey as she meets colorful characters in the Land of the Sweets, from the captivating Sugar Plum Fairy to Mother Ginger's mischevious Bon Bon Children. This iconic classical ballet enthralls audiences of all ages.

Featured guest leads for this year's performance are Mari Sugawa and Humberto Teixeira.

Mari was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Japan where she received her training. Her repertoire includes in such classics as Giselle, Odette in Swan Lake, Kitri in Don Quixote, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, Nikiya in La Bayadère to among others. She has performed with New Jersey Ballet, Ballet Austin, Eglevsky Ballet, New York Theatre Ballet and Matsuyama Ballet Company. Currently, She performs as a guest principal artist including the Gala of 24th Varna International Ballet Competition.

Humberto originally began his dance training as a teenager in his native country-Brazil, to improve his advanced martial arts skills. He studied with renowned ballet master Pablo Moret and Cristina Helena. He has been a laureate in numerous dance competitions including Festival Internacional De Danca de Joinville. Humberto has performed numerous soloist and principal roles in the Classical Repertoire with Companhia Sesi Minas in Brazil, Columbia Classic Ballet in South Carolina, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe in Germany, New Jersey Ballet and Metropolitan Opera Ballet.

Tickets are $20.00 for the general public, $12.00 for students and youth and ages three & under are free.

The Blacksburg Ballet is a dance co-op comprised of Dance.Tech, Ballet Project at Virginia Tech, Dance Company at VT and the Summer Musical Enterprise.

The Blacksburg Ballet is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for young dancers around the region. Best known for their annual performance of "The Nutcracker".
