Blacksburg Library presents an Author Talk with local author Lawrence Bechtel on Sunday, October 13, 2019.

Lawrence Bechtel will discuss his new book "A Partial Sun". While doing a portrait sculpture of Thomas Jefferson and then of one of his slaves, Isaac, Lawrence was inspired to write his historical novel, "A Partial Sun", which is the first book in a trilogy, The Tinsmith's Apprentice.

Born and raised in Wheaton, Illinois, Lawrence Bechtel graduated from Wheaton College with a B.A. in English in 1971 and spent some years after that experiencing the wider world. Eventually, he settled in Southwest Virginia, raised a family, earned an MA at Virginia Tech, and began teaching in the Virginia Tech English Department. He also begin writing and figurative sculpture and over time secured significant public commissions. He became the designated storyteller for children at the Blacksburg New School and from that experience eventually recorded three CD’s worth of original stories.

His first book is titled "A Partial Sun" and is working on the book sequel "That Dazzling Sun".


The program will be followed by a short meeting of the Friends of the Library and refreshments provided by the Friends.
