The Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech presents the Indian Ink Theatre Company performing “Mrs. Krishnan's Party” with three performances starting on Thursday, January 30, 2020 and continuing through Saturday, February 1, 2020 will all shows starting at 7:30 pm.

Indians throw crazy parties….and you’re invited! Heard of Diwali? A million lamps floating on a river and fireworks to wake the dead. Heard of Holi? An explosion of color and joy and massive dry cleaning bills. How about Onam? No? It’s the harvest festival, and this one could be the craziest of them all!

Mrs. Krishnan’s boarder, overzealous wannabe DJ, James (Justin Rogers) has invited a few friends into the back room of the corner shop as a special surprise to celebrate Onam and the return home of her son. But when around 100 strangers turn up (the audience), Mrs. Krishnan (Kalyani Nagarajan) has no choice but to throw the party of her life, and audience members are the party goers.

Indian Ink Theatre Company continues to bridge cultures and expand boundaries with this utterly disarming new comedy that seats the audience around the dining table and at the kitchen bench in the back room of Krishnan’s Dairy. Now that her son is grown up, Mrs. Krishnan is thinking of selling the shop. It’s Onam, a time to celebrate life, death, and rebirth, and Mrs. Krishnan has to throw the party of her life in this joyous, heart-warming show.

For over two decades Jacob Rajan and Justin Lewis have pursued their idea of the ‘Serious Laugh’- opening mouths with laughter in order to slip something serious in along with a love of mask and story. The company blends western theatrical traditions with eastern flavours and has been critically acclaimed for its use of live music, heightened theatricality, humour, pathos and great storytelling.

Together with a team of long term collaborators they have created an extraordinary series of plays that have won awards and delighted audiences throughout New Zealand and around the world. The company’s international successes include tours throughout Australia and the USA, as well as sell out seasons in Singapore, Germany, India and the UK.

Indian Ink has won three Production of the Year awards, two Edinburgh Fringe First Awards, won Best Play, Best Composer and Best Actor at the Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards and broken box office records with tours throughout New Zealand, to Australia, Singapore and Edinburgh.

Patrons will be seated on the stage of the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre for these intimate, immersive, and wildly engaging performances. Special seating sections, including the inner circle, wallflowers, cheeky seats, and the coveted table top VIP seats, will make this a party you’ll never forget!
