The Montgomery-Radford-Floyd NAACP branch 7092 presents the 2019 Juneteenth Celebration titled "Celebrating Freedom" on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Rosa Peters Playground in Christiansburg, VA.
Join us in our celebration of Juneteenth! There will be music, games, cake walk, entertainment, raffles, prizes and fun. The pool will be open and free to all. Community organizations will also have booths sharing information.
The New River Valley Progressive Men's Club will be holding a fish fry and the Youth Council of the Montgomery-Radford-Floyd NAACP will be selling hot dogs, drinks and other snacks. Proceeds will benefit the Youth Council used for local youth activities and scholarships.
The name Juneteenth is a contraction of June 18th and 19th, which were the dates in 1865 that the last slaves in Galveston, Texas found out that the Civil War was over and they had been freed. Celebrations all over the nation commemorate African American freedom and celebrate education and achievement.
Juneteenth is an event and fundraiser for and by the Youth Council of the MRF NAACP. Co-Sponsored by the Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County branches of the NAACP.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
Rosa Peters Playground is located at 300 Depot in Christiansburg, Virginia.
