Description:
The Pilot School & Community Center hosts an open meeting to decide the future of the Community Center on Thursday, May 23, 2019.

What should be done with the Pilot Community Center?
Anyone who cares about the answer to this question, needs to attend this meeting. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Options to Be Discussed:
1. Fundraise to keep the building as the Pilot Community Center
2. Partner with local organizations:
- Museums or universities to preserve historic structure
- Montgomery County Parks & Rec to convert land to a park
3. Sell the building, keep the land and use money to convert land to a park
4. Sell building and land at auction, donate money to local charity

Pilot School was built in 1921 and served the academic needs of the local community until the 1960s when it became the Pilot Community Center. The building needs some repairs, and we are asking local residents to help determine the future of this historic Appalachian structure and how it will continue to best serve the community.

This is an important piece of Appalachia history and it sits on 1.75 acres of nice, flat land. It would be a shame to see this disappear or auctioned off and the town of Pilot be relegated to only a post office and gas station.

Everyone is invited not just local residents of Pilot so please come make your opinion known and get involved.

Directions from Christiansburg:
Head south on S. Franklin Street. Go up over Pilot Mountain and pass Pilot Mountain Grocery on the right. At the bottom of the hill, turn right on Brush Creek Rd. (Rt 617). The Pilot Community Center will be on the right.

Directions from Floyd:
Head north on Christiansburg Pike (Rt 615) until it ends (about 11 miles). Turn left on Pilot Rd (Rt 615), and then take the first left on Brush Creek Rd. (Rt 617). The Pilot Community Center will be on the right.

The Pilot Community Center is located at 4449 Brush Road in Pilot, VA.

If you intend to get involved but cannot make the meeting, please post your comments to our Facebook page or call/write to 540-382-8741 or vtveggeberg@gmail.com.
