The Radford University College of Visual & Performing Arts presents the 18th Annual Radford University International Guitar Festival on Friday, March 22, 2019 and Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Performance Hall located within the Covington Center on Radford University.

The annual Radford University International Guitar Festival brings accomplished guitar players from around the world to Radford’s campus for a weekend of masterful music performances. This year’s lineup will feature Marina Alexandra, Harris Becker, Maharajah Flamenco Trio and Andrew Weed.

Friday Schedule:
• 4:00-6:00 pm: Masterclass: Harris Becker (Covington 121)
• 6:00-7:00 pm: Dinner Break
• 7:30-8:15 pm: Alumni Showcase Concert with Andrew Weed
• 8:30-9:15 pm: Performance from Marina Alexandra

Each year Dr. Robert Trent, a professor in the Radford University Department of Music, oversees a group of students who organize the festival. “Students, and the audience benefit from what they learn about the nature, incredible variety, and stature of classical guitar, its performers and music, around the world. One thing that I think is really important is that high school students from around Virginia also participate in a high school guitar ensemble showcase having the experience of performing in our state-of-the-art performance hall. The festival also offers these students the opportunity to perform in open masterclasses given by our internationally noted performers. Masterclasses are lessons that are open to the public audience. Both students and the audience ask questions in an interactive setting and learn about what goes into study and performance on classical guitar,” said Trent.

The International Guitar Festival has consistently drawn an audience to the New River Valley from Northern Virginia as well as beyond the borders of the Commonwealth of Virginia, including Maryland, North Carolina and as far north as New York State.

Admission is free for all events and all are welcome.
