Description:
The Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation presents the 5th Annual Soul Food Sampling event at St. Luke and Odd Fellows Hall in Blacksburg, VA on Saturday, February 9, 2019 with seatings at noon, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
Soul Food is a uniquely American cuisine that has evolved from the time enslaved people arrived until the present day. Food is important to every culture; however, the role, ingredients, and traditions that define procuring, preparing and consuming food differ as cultures develop over time and places. The creativity and thoughtfulness that enslaved African Americans applied to collecting, preparing, and consuming food is a testament to the loving care that sustained them for generations.
The event will include a brief overview of the history and traditions of Soul Food, the recollections of residents of the former New Town neighborhood where the St. Luke and Odd Fellows Hall is located, and of course generous portions of traditional soul foods.
Three seatings are offered at Noon, 2 PM, and 4 PM.
Advance purchase of tickets is required, and seating is very limited so get your tickets today at http://blacksburgmuseum.org/event/soul-food-sampling-2019/ or by calling 540-443-1600.
