The Virginia Tech Indian Students Association and Society of Indian Americans at Virginia Tech present Dandiya Night 2018 at room 125 in War Memorial Gym on the campus of Virginia Tech on Sunday, October 14, 2018.

Join us for a night of dancing to Garba and Bollywood music! "Dandiya Night" is a celebration of the victory of the mythical goddess Durga over the terrible demon Mahishasura. On this day, people young and old from all over India, come together and dance with dandiyas (colorful sticks) as an imitation of this great battle.

We will also provide the dandiyas to whoever wishes to join in the dancing. The dances are easy to follow and learn so don't hesitate to jump in. We look forward to seeing you all!

The event is open to all age groups and admission is free.

The Indian Students Association (ISA) at Virginia Tech is an international student organization which furthers the interaction between the Indian students, members of the Indian community in Blacksburg, VA and southwest Virginia with the spirit of Virginia Tech. The ISA is a platform for displaying the rich and varied culture and heritage of India as well as encourage students to integrate within the American way of life.

The ISA forms the largest international group on campus with over 600 individuals, consisting of students and families, participating in socio-cultural events each year. We are a strictly secular, non-profit and non-political organization. We sponsor a wide variety of events, including celebration of Indian festivals, volunteer activities for spreading awareness about India, as well as a forum for promoting individual talent.

The Society of Indian Americans at Virginia Tech (SIA) is a cultural society dedicated to enriching the lives of the South Asian community at Virginia Tech, as well as the lives of other students who are interested in the culture and traditions of this region. We participate in many events, on and off campus, as well as host our own annual show at the end of the year in the hope of sharing our culture and heritage with others.

We also encourage participation in any of the three dance teams associated with us, including VT Dhamaal, VT Bhangra, or VT Junoon.
