The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts continues their 2017/18 Music on Mondays concert series with visiting artist and cellist David Schepps along with faculty pianists Tracy Cowden and Richard Masters on Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Squires Recital Salon.

Schepps holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Mannes College of Music in New York, an MM and DMA from Arizona State University (ASU), and did pre-college study at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM). After extensive study with legendary cellist Pierre Fournier in Geneva on an ITT Fellowship and an ASU Graduate Research Grant, Schepps wrote his doctoral thesis on Fournier’s technique and interpretations of the Beethoven cello/piano works. Dr. Schepps has been a university professor since 1985, and his students have won positions, competitions and scholarships throughout the world. He has hosted many guest artists and cello festivals involving hundreds of cellists of all ages and levels.

Cowden serves as Faculty Chair of Music, teaches piano, and coaches voice. As a collaborative pianist, she frequently performs with a diverse array of soloists and chamber ensembles. She is a passionate advocate for new music, and has premiered many new chamber works with colleagues around the country.

Praised by critics as “extraordinary” (The DCist) and "astounding" (CVNC), Masters is a soloist, opera coach, chamber musician, and orchestral pianist based in Blacksburg, VA (where he recently joined the faculty at Virginia Tech). Significant collaborations include concerts with baritone Donnie Ray Albert, mezzo-soprano Kathryn Findlen, mezzo-soprano Barbara Conrad, and many others. He has appeared with former Boston Symphony principal trombonist Norman Bolter, former Juilliard String Quartet violinist Earl Carlyss, saxophonist Harvey Pittel, and under the baton of Lorin Maazel. Dr. Masters has performed solo, chamber, and vocal recitals throughout the U.S. and in Europe.

Admission is $15.00 for the general public, $12.00 for seniors and $7.00 for students.

Advance ticket purchases are encouraged to avoid waiting in-line at the box office. Tickets will also be available at the box office one hour prior to the performance.
