Accelerate Blacksburg presents the program "Blacksburg's Electronic Village" on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at TechPad.

Accelerate Blacksburg welcomes Robert McAden, former head of Rackspace in Blacksburg and newly minted head of the Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council, and SyCom's Gordie Zeigler, Chairman of the Board of The Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council, as we take a look at Blacksburg's path forward as a technology-based community. Robert and Gordie will bring their crystal ball, and other movers and shakers from within the technology community, to explore the direction and future of technology businesses in our region.

We'll also hear from Dave Perks, owner and creative director of The Perks Agency, and marketer for TechPad resident GoGig, on the recently deployed gigabit wireless network in Blacksburg and the potential its expansion brings for the Blacksburg business community.

In the early 1990s, the Blacksburg Electronic Village emerged, and Blacksburg gained national fame for being the most wired town in America. For the last couple decades, Blacksburg has remained the hub of our Region's technology community.

But, in recent years, the Internet age has allowed others in the region and across the Commonwealth and beyond catch up, if not surpass, Blacksburg in terms of prominence in the technology game. There is a perception that development and retention of technology businesses in Blacksburg and the NRV is waning. Does the perception mirror reality? If so, why, and what does the future hold for Blacksburg's position on the technology leaderboard?

Accelerate Blacksburg is designed for startups, entrepreneurs, small business owners, large business owners, employees, business coaches, mentors, angel and accredited investors, venture capital managers, crowdfunding experts, and people interested in accelerating the development of the business community in Blacksburg, Montgomery County, and the New River Valley.

Accelerate Blacksburg will host regular meetups, networking and social events, workshops and other educational programs, and pitch competitions, and will alternate meetings, programs, and events between studio2.0 and TechPad, Blacksburg's two premier coworking and startup facilities.
