Description:
New River Stage presents the play "Women And War" by Jack Hilton Cunningham on Friday, February 24, 2017, Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 7 pm and Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 3 pm at the Warm Hearth Village Center.

New River Stage is excited to be returning to the stage in 2017 with this unique limited engagement reader’s theater event.

“Through correspondence and monologues, in the style of reader’s theater, Women and War is a collection of fictional stories based on historical fact, told by generations of Americans impacted by conflict from The Great War to the War in Afghanistan. From housewife to worker, young bride to nurse, mother to widow, and now, young woman to soldier, these are tales of sacrifice, love, determination and hope told by those who bravely persevere on the home front and on the battlefield.”

Directed by AJ Brightman Moose, the show features a strong cast of talented local performers ranging in age from 15 to 50. Cast members include Liza Roop, Jeremiah Sarver-Wolf, Stephanie Watson, Debbie Kleiner, Harmony Faye Tripp-Kiser, Nick Kiser, Makala Witten, Stephanie Clements, Natasha Cox, Brenda Van Gelder, and Morgan Lazo. Two of the actors, Sarver-Wolf and Watson, currently attend New River Stage’s Second Act theater program designed for students in 6th-12th grade.

“New River Stage selected this show to highlight the strength and courage of women throughout the history of the United States,” Moose stated. “This show tells the story of strong empowered women in military service on the front lines in positions seldom mentioned in the history books. It focuses on the wives and the mothers of the soldiers as they try to keep home and hearth together as their sons and husbands serve thousands of miles away. It honors women as they struggle to rebuild their lives when many of these soldiers fell on the battlefield never to return home.”

While the individual stories are chronological, the entire play is not. “For the purpose of comparison, suspense, and character development, lightheartedness is juxtaposed with the horrors of war addressing the need for a mental and emotional break from the severity of certain story lines.”

Run time is 90-minutes with a 15-minute intermission. Parking is FREE and the building is ADA accessible.

Ticket prices are $10.00 and all seats are general admission. Tickets are available online at https://squareup.com/store/NewRiverStage/item/women-and-war-reader-s-theater-eventg or at the door.

New River Stage is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community theater group.
