Description:
YMCA at Virginia Tech presents Introduction to Dance Improvisation Class on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.
Have you always wanted to try modern dance? Do you feel intimidated when asked to "improvise?" Fear not! Similarly to the way in which jazz musicians practice skills in order to freely improvise, you can develop a structured skill set to help you feel comfortable in a dance improvisational setting.
Drawing from a rich history of American postmodern dance forms, we will explore a variety of movement games, dance concepts and somatic experiences. We'll practice creating and performing improvisational "scores" (maps for movement similar to the musical notation used by sound artists). Finding freedom within structure, we'll find the joy and delight in movement improvisation.
No dance experience necessary.
For those 13+ years old.
To pre-register or for more information, visit http://vtymca.org/open-university/ or call the YMCA Office at 540-961-9622.
