Description:
The Perspective Gallery located within the Virginia Tech's Squires Student Center presents the art Exhibit and reception "Ordinary Insights" on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.

This exhibition features three faculty members from Naropa University’s School of the Arts. They are Sue Hammond West, Marlow Brooks, and Robert Spellman. Virginia Tech Professor Douglas Lindner (Electrical and Computer Engineering) was introduced to these artists when he was a visiting Lenz Scholar at Naropa last year and is currently organizing a conference on contemplative education to be hosted by Virginia Tech in March 2016.

The design of the exhibit will be informed by and timed to coincide with this conference. For forty years Naropa University has been at the vanguard of what has come to be known as contemplative education, what a recent cover of Time magazine called the ‘mindful revolution.’ The term contemplative in the context of education is still subject to a variety of meanings; at Naropa it refers specifically to meditative practices that train the attention, especially those practices rooted in Buddhism, Hinduism, and Taoism and how they inform any activity.

The event if free and open to the public.

The exhibit will be on display from March 4 - May 14, 2016.
