Description:
Atmos Energy and VA811 are sponsoring an 811 Run in either an 8 mile run or 5K run/walk to bring awareness to the Dig with Care message in Virginia on Saturday, August 8, 2015 starting at the Christiansburg Rec Center.
We are holding the first annual SW VA 811 Run to help raise awareness of the risk you take every time you dig without calling 811 first. 811 is the national Call Before You Dig number, created to help protect individuals from hitting underground utility lines while digging.
Both courses will provide participants with beautiful scenery. We will have the grill fired up to feed all the tired and hungry participants. There will be give-a-ways and educational material available to help encourage everyone to Call 811 Before Digging.
Schedule:
• 6:00 am - Day of Registration begins
• 7:30 am - 8 Mile Run starts
• 7:45 am - 5K Run/Walk starts
• 9:00 am - Food available for purchase
Participants will receive, t-shirt (if registered before July 25, 2015), food & drink bracelet, participant medal, 811 run decal and information. Awards will be given for winners in the men's and women's category. Additionally, there is a three person team competition for the 5K.
Food bracelets will also be available to purchase for spectators at $5 for adults and free for children 12 and younger.

Whether you are a homeowner or a professional excavator, calling 811 before you dig will get your underground utility lines marked at no cost. We want everyone in Virginia to take CARE - Call 811 before digging.
By holding the first Annual SWVA 811 Run, Virginia is joining other states like Minnesota, North Carolina, Mississippi and Kansas in the national push to spread the safety message of 811.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Christiansburg Volunteer Fire Department because the Fire Department is the first responder if anyone hits a gas line while digging. Members of the department will be on hand to help spread the safety message.
