Description:
Watch the Steam Locomotive 611 travel through the New River Valley once again on Friday, July 3rd, Saturday, July 4th and Sunday, July 5th.

Come see the Queen of Steam topping the grade she was built to climb. The 611 is making a run from Roanoke to the the Walton Wye junction in Radford on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

The train leaves Roanoke, all three days, at 1:30 pm and passes through Cambria located in Christiansburg, VA sometime between 2:00 and 2:45 pm.

Note: We really have no idea about the specific time and are making our best guess estimate.

The train travels to Walton Junction in Radford, VA, turns around (takes about 25 minutes) and then heads back to Roanoke, VA, passing again through Cambria. Come to the Cambria Depot Museum to see her pass through, running at full steam. This is the first time the 611 will be seen in the New River Valley in 25 years.

The Class J 611 Steam Locomotive was built in 1950 in Roanoke VA, a time when men wore hats, ladies wore gloves and smartly dressed porters served lunch on real china in the dining car. The 611 Locomotive pulled the Powhatan Arrow, the famed passenger train, from Norfolk to Cincinnati. The Class J 611 retired from passenger rail service in 1959. In 1962, she was moved to the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke.
