Description:
Radford University's R-Space presents "Changing Stereotypes" a talk presented by Miss Iowa 2013 Nicole Kelly on Thursday, April 2nd in the Bonnie Auditorium.
Nicole Kelly was born without her left forearm yet never let it slow her down winning the Miss Iowa title in 2013.
"As I grew older, I learned to offset the initial stares I received from people with an outgoing personality that would not give in to “No.” This meant that I tried everything! From baseball, to dance to diving, there was nothing I would not try."
Kelly's presentation at focuses on the seemingly incompatible labels "pageant queen" and "disability" and how one person can make a difference in changing stereotypes. In sharing her experiences, she hopes to challenge audiences to question their preconceptions, think outside the box and critique the practice of labeling people.
