Description:
The Pulaski Theatre and the Hensel Eckman YMCA present a live concert featuring musicians Wayne Henderson, Jeff Little and Helen White on Saturday, January 17th at the Pulaski Theatre.

Join us for an evening of great Appalachian and Americana music to benefit the Hensel Eckman YMCA and Pulaski Theatre featuring three exceptional artists.

Wayne Henderson’s top-notch finger-picking is a source of great pleasure and pride to his friends, family and neighbors in Grayson County, Virginia. His guitar playing has also been enjoyed at Carnegie Hall, in three national tours of Masters of the Steel-String Guitar, and in seven nations in Asia. In addition to his reputation as a guitarist, Henderson is a luthier of great renown. He is a recipient of a 1995 National Heritage Award presented by the National Endowment for the Arts. He produces about 20 instruments a year, mostly guitars; he is almost as well-known for the mandolins he has made and has sold them to many top musicians including Doc Watson and Vince Gill among many others.

With few exceptions, the piano does not play a prominent part in Appalachian or Americana music, and is rarely the lead instrument. But Jeff Little is an exception – and a remarkable one. His distinctive two-handed style, much influenced by the mountain flat-picked guitar tradition, is breathtaking in its speed, precision and clarity.

A professional musician since the age of 14, Jeff is conversant with traditional old-time country, bluegrass, rockabilly, and blues. With a rack-mounted harmonica and vocals, he can also be a one-man show. Jeff settled in Nashville for a while, where he worked as a session man in between stints on the road. He also worked with a wide range of commercial country artists as a musician or manager most notably Keith Urban. Several years ago Jeff and his family returned to the Blue Ridge where today he is the Director of the Entertainment Technology Program at Northeast State in Bristol, TN.

Helen White is the founder and regional coordinator of the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) program which introduces Appalachian children to their musical heritage. An award-winning singer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer in her own right, Helen has toured extensively with Wayne Henderson in the U.S. and Europe. Both are frequent instructors at major traditional music camps across the country.

Doors open at 7 pm and the concert begins at 8 pm.

The Pulaski Theatre is a restored, historic theatre located in downtown Pulaski, Virginia at 14 West Main Street.
