Description:
Radford University will honor American veterans and offer thanks to those who have served at its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Tuesday, November 11th in the Hurlburt Student Center auditorium.
The Veterans Day ceremony will feature a reflection on the history of Veterans Day, a capella renditions of the national anthem and other patriotic songs and a presentation of a wreath in honor of veteran sacrifices. In addition to recognizing veterans the program will feature United States Marine Corps veteran Josh Himan '06 who will share his journey with attendees.
Himan, a Dale City, Virginia native, joined the Marines upon his graduation from RU as a finance major. While serving in Afghanistan in 2009, his vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device (IED). The explosion severely injured Himan’s spinal cord, leaving him a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the chest down.
Since his return, Himan has worked to build his new, unexpected future. He earned his M.S. in Finance from George Washington University and will receive his M.S. in Applied Economics this fall from Johns Hopkins University. Today, Josh works as a financial analyst and entrepreneur.
