Description:
The Radford University Appalachian Events Committee presents their Spring Concert featuring the music of the Deer Run Drifters, After Jack and the Lost and Found Band on Friday, April 18th in the Porterfield Hall Theatre.

The Deer Run Drifters (DRD) are a stringed quintet from the small mountain town of Floyd, Virginia. The group, all from former bands of different genres came together in mid 2012 to play a more Folk/Bluegrass/Americana sound. They are currently working on their first album, hopefully to be released in early 2013. With the influence of the mountains and the moonshine, this band is not one to miss!

After Jack is a musical celebration of togetherness. With expressive lyrics, captivating vocals and a unique take on traditional mountain music, the trio blends elements of bluegrass, gospel, folk and country with a distinctly old-time energy. Combine your most beloved musical memories with a foot-stomping string band, top it off with harmonies that spring straight from the soul of the mountains, and you’ve got After Jack.

After Jack takes its name from the hero of beloved mountain folk-tales, whose quick thinking and good fortune always brought him out on top. There’s a spirit about After Jack that can only be described as magical.

The Lost and Found Band was formed in 1973. The band became quite popular playing bluegrass festivals, with exceptional songwriting contributing much to the group's fame "Love of the Mountains," recorded by the original lineup, has become a bluegrass standard. In addition to contemporary songs, the band also recorded more traditional fare, such as "The Man Who Wrote 'Home Sweet Home, Never Was a Married Man." Most of their albums feature similar material and the band continues to be a strong positive force in contemporary bluegrass music.

As of today, the band is made up of Allen Mills on bass, Dan Wells on Guitar, Ronald Smith on banjo and Scott Napier on Mandolin.
