Description:
The Jacksonville Center for the Arts offers their three-day Soft Soapstone Carving staring on Friday, August 29th and continuing through Sunday, August 31st meeting from 9 am - 5 pm daily.
Learn to carve in stone! Darcy Meeker has taught stone-carving at the Vermont Carving Studio and founded the Backyard Stone Carvers group in Blacksburg, VA. ]Her own stone-carving teachers include Bob Lockhart of Louisville, KY, Hanneke Zwart of The Netherlands, and the late Bernard Matemera of Zimbabwe. Darcy Meeker will be providing Soap Stone and Alabaster rocks that can be purchased the first day of class. Rocks cost between $1 to $6 per pound and range in weight from 1 to 15 pounds.
Materials to bring: Sketch book or drawing pad, photos, etc.
Optional Materials to bring - (Darcy will have extra): Carving tools, Soap Stone or Alabaster Rock for carving, Wood tools, too, Emory paper, sanding pads, etc.
